About Active Slough
We have received £194,000 from Sport England's Community Sport Activation Fund, which went towards the Get Active project, run by the council and its partners.
The project has a specific aim of increasing participation in sport and physical exercise among 14-25 year olds. In the last 2 years, we have held a variety of sessions to attract this age group. In the third year however, we want to measure the impact that the sessions have had on participants and how they improved their health and exercise levels.
We also give people the chance to participate in a range of different sports and physical activity. We run a volunteering scheme which creates opportunities for people 16+ to develop coaching skills and qualifications. In return, they will have to deliver 30 hours into our programme and assist us in the delivery of the sessions.
The four areas the project focuses on are:
- Britwell
- Wexham
- Baylis and Stoke
- Foxbrough.
We target those not in education or training and young people with a disability.
We are now putting on sessions in other areas of Slough to attract more groups of people and encourage them to take part in at least 30 minutes of sporting activity, once a day.
Salt Hill junior parkrun
Every parkrun only happens because of the time and dedication of our volunteers.
We need volunteer support each week to help deliver our free weekly 2k running event for juniors aged 4-14 years old, at Salt Hill Park in Slough.
