About Surrey Goalball Club
We are the home of goalball in Surrey. Goalball is a dynamic Paralympic sport for the blind and visually impaired. It's fast, exciting, and thrilling to play or watch.
Surrey Goalball Club was established in 2025 to help promote the fast-paced Paralympic sport of goalball in the county. We aim to provide regular training sessions and competitive opportunities for athletes of all abilities from our venue at Woking High School. Our sessions are monthly on Saturdays, from 12pm-1pm, although we are looking to increase the frequency and duration as the club grows. We want to foster an inclusive and supportive environment where everyone can develop their skills, challenge themselves, and enjoy the sport. Sessions are carefully designed to develop players' skills in defence, attack, orientation, communication, and teamwork.
Membership is completely free. Session's cost £5, but Your first session is free, and your second is half price (£2.50). We are open to players of all ages, though we highly recommend a minimum age of 8 years old. There is no upper age limit, but you'll need to be able to get up and down and move about reasonably easily. Our sessions are completely unisex and open to all abilities and experience levels.
The Secretary is a key officer of Surrey Goalball Club responsible for the smooth day-to-day administration and communication of the club. They act as the first point of contact for enquiries, manage correspondence, and ensure that key meetings such as the AGM are organised, recorded, and followed up with clear actions. The Secretary maintains accurate records, affiliations, and reference files and helps to ensure that information flows effectively between the committee, members, and external stakeholders.
The People Coordinator is responsible for helping Surrey Goalball Club recruit, welcome, and support both members and volunteers. This role combines membership coordination and volunteer coordination, making sure people have a smooth experience from first enquiry through to becoming confident, active participants in the club. The People Coordinator helps maintain accurate records, supports safe and inclusive onboarding, coordinates basic volunteer cover for sessions and events, and acts as a friendly point of contact for day-to-day people-related queries, escalating welfare or safeguarding concerns to the Welfare Officer where appropriate.
The Social Media Officer supports Surrey Goalball Club’s communication and brand image by managing its presence across social platforms in line with the club’s brand, values, and priorities. They plan, create, and publish accessible, engaging content that promotes sessions, events, and key messages, and respond to comments and enquiries in a timely and appropriate way. Working closely with the IT & Digital Lead and the Committee, they help to grow and maintain an active online community, highlight the impact of the club’s work, and use basic insights or analytics to inform future content and campaigns.
The Fundraising Officer leads on generating income to support Surrey Goalball Club’s a and long-term sustainability. They develop and coordinate a range of fundraising approaches, such as grant applications, donations, sponsorships, and events, in line with the club’s values and priorities. Working closely with the Treasurer and wider Committee, they help to plan realistic fundraising targets, ensure that funds raised are recorded accurately, and keep supporters informed about the impact of their contributions.
Activity Assistants support the smooth, safe running of Surrey Goalball Club sessions by helping Coaches and players on and off the court. They assist with practical tasks such as setting up and clearing away equipment, guiding and orientating players where needed, and supporting drills, games, and basic skills activities under the direction of coaches. Activity Assistants help to create a welcoming, inclusive environment by offering general support to members, following the club’s policies and values, and sharing any welfare or safety concerns with the Coach or Welfare Officer so they can be dealt with appropriately.
Coaches are responsible for planning and delivering safe and engaging goalball sessions that support players of all ages and abilities to develop their skills, challenge themselves, and enjoy the sport. They lead training activities on court, provide clear instruction and constructive feedback, and adapt drills or games to meet different needs and experience levels. At competitions, they provide information and advice to players to assist them in delivering a game strategy, aiming for the best possible tournament results.
