Sport Coach and Mentor

Redgate Sports is a charity which uses sport and mentoring to support children and young people who need a bit more help. We work with children who are: care experienced, have a special educational need, have been excluded or are at risk of exclusion, from low-income families.

Our programme has grown in Worcestershire and Warwickshire has grown and we now work in around 60schools, deliver extensive holiday programmes, support children not in education, run after school and evening sports clubs. In total we currently support around 350 children per week.

We currently have opportunities for full and part-time coach/mentor roles across Worcestershire and Warwickshire. We are willing to consider employed positions or self-employed roles to suit the right applicant.

We are open to applications from coaches from any sport, however, we expect all our coaches to get involved in a range of sports - to suit the needs of our students. Football is always a regular part of our programme.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The role is to lead and oversee the Redgate Sports programme in the identified area. The majority of the week will be working in schools and delivering sessions. In addition, each week there is allocated time to support the coaching team

The role is made up of 4 areas:
• Oversee the delivery and growth of the Redgate Sports programme in the identified area
• Manage and support the coaching team
• Deliver sport and mentoring sessions as leader of the coaching team
• Work with Redgate Sports CEO and the other coaches and development officers to improve and grow the Redgate Sports programme

Specific tasks and duties:

Deliver mentoring and sport sessions:

• Deliver mentoring and sport session in schools
• Deliver after school clubs
• Deliver holiday programmes and activity days

Work with school partners and other stakeholders:

• Regular check ins with schools to monitor and discuss progress
• Document and report progress and any issues
• Write end of term reports for each child

Ensure the safety of all the children we support:

• Ensure that we are always delivering in line with our published policies
• Ensure that any concerns are documented and communicated to the Redgate Sports safeguarding lead

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements

Essentials: Qualifications and Experience
• Sport Coaching qualification with a recognised National Governing Body. The qualification must qualify you to work independently with individuals and groups OR a teaching qualification
• Experience coaching in schools and/or community programmes
• Experience of or interest in mentoring/helping children and young people

Essentials: Other
• Access to a car and current UK driving licence
• Appointed persons 1st aid (can be achieved as part of recruitment process)
• Satisfactory DBS (this will be applied for as part of the recruitment process)
• Excellent communicator – able to build rapport, listen, be patient, be kind and take an interest in all people
• Personal organisation and admin skills

Desirables
• Experience of youth work, working with vulnerable children/young people, working with children with special educational needs
• Mentoring training and experience
