Do you think you'd like to lead your own Run Talk Run or Walk Talk Walk?
We would LOVE to hear from you.
There is no set "criteria" for being a leader. We are not therapists. We are not running coaches.
We are just kind humans who are committed to hosting a weekly safe space for our peers to connect and build a community.
Q. I AM REALLY SHY, AND FIND SOCIAL SITUATIONS /MEETING NEW PEOPLE DIFFICULT. WILL I BE OK?
A. Meeting new people for the first time is REALLY hard, but at Run Talk Run we totally 'get it'. You don't need to be a happy-smiley-extroverted-crowd-pleaser to attend. It's alright to turn up and be a little anxious. We're here for it all, and most of us felt the same on our first run… even the leaders!
Q. I AM NOT A FAST RUNNER, I MAY HAVE TO WALK, IS THAT OK?
A. We are not here for a "push yourself" competitive workout. We are here for the conversation, and to connect with our peers. We are here for ALL paces and abilities,
and if we need to walk some of the route, that's ok too.
Q. HOW DO YOU MAKE SURE YOU INCLUDE EVERYONE? EVEN WHEN THERE ARE DIFFERENT PACES?
A. We really don't care at all about pace at Run Talk Run, and we make sure that the speedier people are aware it is their responsibility to keep us running as a group. We do a little thing called 'Swanning'. Similar to how swans avoid losing any baby swans at the back of the pack, the fast runners will loop around the back of the group every so often to ensure we are not leaving anyone behind.
Q. IS MENTAL HEALTH DISCUSSED AT EVERY RUN? I FIND IT HARD TO TALK ABOUT…
A. As leaders, we gently "encourage" the conversation, but would never force it. Talking about mental health is SO hard, and can make us feel vulnerable and exposed. As leaders, we try to speak as candidly as possible about our own mental health, which can hopefully encourage you to feel comfortable enough to do the same. If you don't though, that's also ok… Run Talk Run can be a great way to support other people with their mental health struggles too.
