Community Action Suffolk - This Community Can Buddy Up project
The "This Community Can" project delivered by Community Action Suffolk aims to tackle rural isolation with a range of volunteer-led activities across Suffolk. There are a range of groups running sessions from walking to gardening, netball to yoga, however during the Covid-19 pandemic these have been on hold.
In response, the team have launched a new initiative to support people who are isolated and struggling to re-connect with their local community.
"Buddy Up" uses volunteers across the county to link up with an isolated person. Initial contact is made by phone in an attempt to build a friendship and then this gently progresses into walks, short outings etc with the aim of building an individuals confidence.
This is a lovely role for a volunteer to support an isolated individual in their own community. Free online training is provided and volunteer expenses are covered. The role is flexible to fit around work/ family commitments and the team would love to hear from anyone who feels they could spare a little time to make a big difference during this difficult time.
Equally, if you feel like you would benefit from the support of a local buddy or know of someone who would, please let them know!
