Explore Kent’s ‘King Charles III England Coast Path’ Challenge
|
|
We've completed the third and final fortnight of the King Charles III England Coast Path
challenge and we have collectively walked 1,710 km. We have another three lucky winners this fortnight winning a family ticket to Dover Castle, one night
accommodation and breakfast at a Shepherd Neame location along the coast and a choice of 3 Quiz Trails.
A huge thank you to everyone who participated in this challenge. Our goal was to raise awareness of the King Charles III England Coast Path and highlight the fantastic benefits it offers. We also aimed
to encourage everyone to explore the stunning Kent countryside, coastline, local woodlands, and charming towns. We hope you enjoyed the challenge and are inspired to
keep walking or wheeling during your free time!

Accessible routes

Samphire Hoe has two distinct one-mile (1.6km) sections. One follows the sea wall along smooth
concrete, while the other passes through the middle of Hoe with good paths and some steep gradients. There are several resting points along this section. This route
is a fan favourite due to its mass of wildflowers in spring and summer and its views of the dramatic outline of the Shakespeare Cliff.
Thames and Medway Estuary is a flat walk of 1.2 miles (1.9km). The paths are a mixture of
tarmac and hard coarse surfaces. There are frequent rest areas along the route. A radar key may be required for wide access through the kissing gates. This
delightful walk takes in an exciting mix of sea life and island life in one of the most isolated spots in the Southeast.
Riverside Country Park is also a flat walk of 1.2 miles (1.9km). The paths are a mixture of
tarmac and hard coarse surfaces. There are frequent rest areas along the route. A radar key may be required for wide access through the kissing gates. It is now an
important freshwater wildlife resource and a delightful place to spend a short while savouring this special riverside environment.

This summer English Heritage brings you 'Dover Castle Under
Siege', an exhibition which tells the story of the most testing times in the history of Dover Castle as it defended the crown from the threat of English rebel
and French forces.
The new attraction includes reopened medieval tunnels and a new siege-themed play area. It is also the first time that visitors have had access to the spur, giving
incredible views of the castle as seen from the perspective of the attacking French and baronial army.
