About Auto-Cycle Union

The ACU is the internationally recognised National Governing Body for motorcycle sport in the British Isles (less Northern Ireland).

The ACU provides for all forms of motorcycle sport ranging from Road Racing to all disciplines of Off Road activity (Motocross, Trials, Enduro, Grass Track and Speedway).

Motorcross: A race against others on pre-determined tracks to see who can; jump the highest; or the furthest; or indeed go the fastest to reach the chequered flag first. There are numerous clubs both for Adult and Children spread throughout the Country that are eager to help and support new riders start racing. Join a club, get a Competition Licence and start racing. The youngest age limit is 6 years but no upper one. As long as you are able to pass a medical you will get a Licence to race.

Trials: A trial is a test of riding skill and balance over a variety of observed natural obstacles with riders incurring penalties for footing or stopping. This can be riding up a stream, grassy hill climbs, over rock slabs etc. Officials are on hand at observed sections to record the riders' performance and the scores are aggregated by the Event Secretary to determine the winner.

Enduro: The sport of timed cross-country endurance racing. The main difference between Enduro racing and Motocross is its timed nature. It is a race against the course.
